Why does the Bible call King David a man after God’s own heart?

Here are 5 reasons why the Bible describes David as a man after God’s own heart:

First, David had learned to worship God as a young shepherd boy in the fields of Bethlehem. David turned all his life experiences, whether good or bad, into songs of praise for the Lord. He was a true worshiper of God, not only through music, but in His heart.

Second, David was a man of courage. He did not allow his own fears and emotions to get the best of him. In all of life’s circumstances, he learned to trust in the Lord. Because David put his trust in the Lord, he had power over his own fears and was able to withstand the assaults of the enemy.

Third, David was a man of war. David fought for God’s interests no matter the cost. He never fought battles for his interests. Any time he went out to battle, it was to protect God’s people and to further God’s plan.

Fourth, David was a wise man who gave wise counsel. This means that he had a deep knowledge of what was in God’s mind & heart. David’s knowledge wasn’t mere head knowledge. He knew God in a deep and personal way and that is why the words he spoke were wise. He had a heavenly wisdom.

Fifth, the Bible describes David as a handsome man. By this, we can understand that God saw beauty in David’s character. God looked at David and saw a spiritual beauty that no other person had. Though he was not perfect or sinless, David had a pure heart that was devoted to God. This made him beautiful in the eyes of God.
